Middle School 7-8
In order to develop well-rounded students who will be productive citizens and lifelong learners, our Middle School offers seventh and eighth graders the opportunity to flourish in academics, extracurricular activities, and social skills.
The Middle School faculty encourages critical and creative thinking in an advanced curriculum that is technologically enhanced by tablets in our 1:1 program, interactive white boards and televisions, and multimedia materials. This rigorous curriculum, aimed at high school preparation, includes grammar, vocabulary, composition, mathematics, pre-algebra, algebra, geography, American history, civics, literature, science, physical education, technology, and a global language choice of French or Spanish. To ensure mastery in all academic subjects, teachers provide weekly extra help sessions. Eighth graders may earn high school credits in algebra and global language.

Non-Academic Programs
Middle School students participate in a variety of non-academic programs. They serve in leadership positions in our student government: the top two positions (Mayor and Mayor Pro-tem) and the Secretary. A daily ROUND period gives students the opportunity to volunteer for work outside of the classroom as members of the yearbook staff, elementary reading buddies, or teachers’ assistants. After-school sports include volleyball, baseball, basketball, and tennis. -
State-Wide Academic Competitions
Through membership in the South Carolina Independent School Association, students participate in annual state-wide academic competitions such as SCISA's Spelling Bee and Quiz Bowl as well as the National Geographic Bee. Our membership in the National Junior Honor Society allows our students to be recognized for outstanding scholastic performance, meritorious character, and community service. -
Beyond the Classroom
To promote the development of healthy social skills, students participate in our intra-school pen pal program, attend dances, and produce the twice-weekly school-wide KNI-TV broadcast. Middle School also brings special field trips: the 7th graders bond in the N.C. mountains and 8th graders make lasting MPS memories in Washington, DC. -
A Bridge to High School & Higher Education
Middle School is the bridge to high school and higher education. We believe that bridge is best built outside the shadow of a high school. In this way, our Middle School students can stand in their own light, not eclipsed by high school adolescents. Both transient and transformative, Middle School is a unique link that connects a child's formative years to the future.
